Learning What a Depressed Client Needs

Elisha Goldstein on Individually Treating Cases of Depression

Depression is one of the most popular conditions that therapists treat, making it easy to fall into the habit of giving stock answers and advice to clients who come in seeking help for their depression. But just as no two people are the same, no two people’s depressions are the same, and every case of depression needs individual consideration.

Elisha Goldstein, a clinical psychologist specializing in mindfulness-based therapies, has several techniques that he employs to help depressed clients build their own self-compassion and empower themselves. One of the key devices he employs is to acknowledge that a depressed client is suffering from a wound of some sort. Once their wound is uncovered, he then works with them to discover what they individually need to feel better.

Watch the video to hear him talk about the learning experience of uncovering what depressed clients need in order to be well again.
